News coverage

8/26: Book review by The Vancouver Sun’s Douglas Todd

Douglas Todd has been a long-time and frequent commenter on cycling in Vancouver, through his opinion column in the Vancouver Sun.

In 1990, he began writing about the state of what we might now call ‘all ages and abilities’ cycling infrastructure in Vancouver (or the lack thereof), which him to collaborate with some Kitsilano neighbours on an idea for a new type of cycling network. The group—which included former SFU professor and head of sustainability Mark Roseland and UBC physics professor Lorne Whitehead—proposed their ‘Green Way’ proposal to Vancouver councillor Gordon Price and city staff.

I interviewed Todd in 2017 (as well as Roseland, Whitehead, and many others) to learn about the creation of the Adanac Bikeway, and what would become the now-essential Vancouver neighbourhood bikeway network—that story is told in this blog post, and of course in my book.

In 2022, Todd reviewed Vanbikes for a piece for the The Province, and then it made the cover of the August 26th edition of The Vancouver Sun.

9/07: Radio Interview on KBOO Portland

Alon Raab, host of the The Bike Show on Portland radio station KBOO, visited Vancouver this summer and got a taste of some of the fruits of decades of advocacy work. He subsequently interviewed Colin during the first half of his September 7th show to talk more about the Portland-Vancouver connection. (start about 9 minutes into the clip).
