An Oral History
by Colin Stein

The DNA of social activism, including the environment and cycling, is so deep in this city.
— Heather

It’s only through riding the streets and reading the nonsense pushback and baseless bias against people on bikes that I’ve really woken up. And the more I know, the more important it’s become to assert my rights to the streets. We pay for them. We’re citizens. Yet we just get scraps. And even the scraps we get are parked in.
— Martyn

You want to be able to make change, and then you learn that making change is a process. You have to get engaged. You can’t complain about shit and not do anything.
— Tania

I was looking for cycling groups on Facebook. I saw HUB had meetings. I went to one it wasn’t a ride group, it was an advocacy group. I thought, “This looks interesting.” This was something that seemed attainable. We can meet our mayor and city councillors, and be on committees. It’s our community. I have a chance to help make change.
